Creating a Course

For teachers who do not have a school district created Canvas account, or are using Canvas for the first time, you can play along in this workshop by creating a FREE Canvas account at http://canvas.instructure.com

 

Making a new course in Canvas is easy if you're account is set up with you as a teacher.  
Here's what you need to do...

Step 1:  Click the "Courses" menu item in the top banner of your page.

Step 2: Choose "View All or Customize"

Step 3: Click the "Start a new course" button on the far right of the Courses page.

Step 4: A new smart window will pop up and ask you to set the basic parameters for your course.

Step 5: On this page you will have the option to select the Content License for your course.  It's acceptable to keep your course private while you are building it and then change the settings later as necessary.  Be aware that your class will remain unpublished while you are working on it.  Students will not be able to enter or see your class until after it is published.

Now that your course is set up move ahead in the course to learn how to create pages, add content, build assignments, make quizzes, and get your students online and engaged with learning through your Canvas course.
